What is Neighborhood Watch?

Neighborhood Watch is an active crime prevention program where neighbors make a commitment to each other to look out for each others property and safety in an organized effort with each other and the police. Together we can reduce crime and illegal activities, and put neighbor back into neighborhood.

Our CLONe Neighborhood Watch Community commends Officer TJ Crumpton for his hard work and service in helping restore peace to our community!

CLONe Neighborhood Watch In Action!

On 9/7/09 at 4:15 CLONe Neighborhood watch was on the ball. Pat was outside starting the grill up & saw a man going in & out of an empty house on the lower corner of Alverado & Pinehill next to the bridge that just went up for rent today caught a burglar stealing things out of the storage shed beside the house & putting it in his pick-up which was already loaded with metal & other things, called the police & 5 of Dekalb’s Finest arrived. Why do we need a neighborhood watch?

It is obvious that the police cannot be everywhere and see everything. The police need us to be their eyes and ears when they are not around. We need to call the police when we see a crime take place or suspicious activity in our neighborhood. We know what suspicious activity is because we live in the neighborhood. Most of the crime that takes place in a neighborhood the police cannot make an arrest without you being a witness to the crime and for the victim to make a formal complaint. It takes a neighborhood to get involved. It takes you!

How does it work?

Many neighbors in a neighborhood see crimes or suspicious activity and never call the police. Some feel afraid of retaliation by the criminal and feel if it does not affect them directly it is not their problem. In a neighborhood watch, neighbors make a commitment to each other to call the police when they see a crime take place or suspicious activity in their neighborhood. After they call the police, they notify the block captain or office of the activity. The information is passed along to all the neighborhoods so everyone can be made aware. Criminal activity is not just your problem, but a neighborhood problem so everyone needs to get involved.
